Qi-biodesign's high oleic acid soybeans have been granted an exemption by the USDA
Recently, the USDA announced a new batch of genetically edited crops that have been exempted from regulation, among which Qi-biodesign's high oleic acid soybean variety P16 received an official response and successfully obtained the exemption.
Qi-biodesign has used gene-editing methods to edit the endogenous fatty acid desaturase gene in soybeans, ultimately obtaining homozygous high oleic acid soybean P16 without foreign insertion sequences. The oleic acid content in the soybean seeds produced by gene editing has been significantly increased to over 80%. Previously, it had obtained a gene-editing safety certificate in China in January 2024.
